The Reidsville Police Department provides a variety of services to the local community. They range from animal control services to Neighborhood Watch. Information about such services are included below: |

ABC Permits
To obtain an ABC permit for your business, you must first contact the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission (919-779-0700) to obtain the necessary paperwork. Locally, you will need to check with the City’s Community Development Department to make sure your business location meets all the necessary zoning and inspection requirements. The Fire Department will also conduct an inspection. The final step is approval of your ABC permit request by the Police Chief, who will make his recommendation to the ABC Commission. |

Animal Control
For animal control services, call Police Communications at 349-1010 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Your message will be forwarded to the Animal Control Officer. If an incident involves a dog bite, etc. after hours, you can also call 349-1010. Any pest problems need to be called in to a pest control company for removal. |

Bicycle Helmets & Safety Clinics
Helmets are required for children under age 16 riding a bicycle on a City street or City property. Bicycle helmets are available free of charge from the Police Department on an “as available” basis. The helmets come in varying sizes and must be fitted to each child. Please contact Capt. Ronnie Ellison of the Community Policing Division at 347-2312 to set up an appointment.
Bicycle Helmet Clinics are held from time to time, often in conjunction with local civic or church groups. At these clinics, bicycles can be registered and helmets fitted. Contact Capt. Ellison for more information. |

Bicycle Registrations
Local residents are encouraged to register their bicycles with the Police Department. In the event a bike is stolen and later recovered, this registration helps officers alert the owners since most people fail to keep the necessary bike registration information. This is a voluntary program offered by the Police Department.
Appointments can also be made to view recovered bicycles that have been recovered by the department. Contact Capt. Ronnie Ellison of the Community Policing Division at 347-2312 to set up an appointment to register your personal bicycles or to view recovered bicycles. |

Bike Patrols (Summer)
During the summer months, several officers are assigned to the department’s bike patrols. As part of the department’s Community Policing Program, these officers ride bicycles and get out into the communities where they serve in order to provide a more visible presence in the area. |

Building Tours
Building tours of the Police Department located at 220 W. Morehead Street are available to school groups, Scouts or other youth groups. The Police Department is located in the Municipal Building, which was completed in 1926 and renovated in 1996. Please contact Capt. Business & Residential Crime Prevention & Security Surveys
The Police Department will visit your residence, business or school to survey potential problems that could compromise the safety of your home or workplace. They will outline changes and make suggestions which will make your place more crime-resistant. Please note that the department will not suggest vendors or make referrals to make those improvements. Canine Demonstrations

Child Restraint Safety Seats
The Police Department has a limited number of child restraint safety seats available at no cost to those who are in need or have defective seats. Contact Capt. William Hairston

DARE Program
The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program is utiltized in the local schools from elementary to middle school level. Reidsville Police have a collaborative agreement with the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department that allows Deputy Tommy Griffin, to teach Reidsville-area students how not to get involved with drugs. |

Explorer Post
The Police Explorer Post is open to youth aged 14-21, who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. As part of the Post, the youth will learn leadership and teamwork skills. They also assist in various events, including the Christmas Parade, July 4th celebration and Stone Soul Picnic. Contact Capt. Fingerprinting
The Police Department provides fingerprinting, free of charge, to residents. Hours for the service are from 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays and 2-4 p.m. Thursdays. Citizens should go to the Police Communications window, located on the first floor of the Police Department, 220 W. Morehead Street, for this service. Fingerprinting is needed for a variety of reasons, including the issuance of peddler permits. |

KidStuff
In this unique program for the kindergarten classes in Reidsville, Officer Rob Compton teaches the young students how to access 9-1-1, about “Stranger Danger,” and acquaints them with the police so the youngsters won’t be afraid of these authority figures. In cooperation with KidStuff, students may be visited by “Eddie Eagle,” who teaches them not to touch firearms. |

Neighborhood Watch
The City of Reidsville currently has 54 Neighborhood Watch groups located throughout the city. These groups are designed to help combat neighborhood crime by having residents look out for their neighbors. Watch meetings are held on a monthly basis, and most of the groups take part in “National Night Out,” which takes place in August. Nuisance, Junked & Abandoned Vehicles
One of the duties of the Police Department is to be on the lookout for nuisance, junked or abandoned vehicles, which can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, rats and other pests. The department attempts to identify these problem vehicles, which are in violation of the City Ordinance (Chapter 17, Traffic, Article IV., Division 2. Abandoned, Nuisance and Junked Motor Vehicles). A letter is sent to the property owner asking for voluntary compliance to remove the vehicle or bring it into compliance. A 10-day grace period is given before a legal process is initiated. |

Peddling/Soliciting Permits
Officers will check on any door-to-door sales activity within the Reidsville city limits. Anyone wishing to peddle or solicit within the city should first check with City Hall to get a peddler’s/solicitor’s permit. The permits are can be obtained through the Finance Department located on the first floor of City Hall, 230 W. Morehead Street. Peddlers/Solicitors will be required to fill out a form, be fingerprinted at the Police Department and pay a fee. |

Private Security
Off-duty officers are available to provide security for businesses, school events and games and other special events. The current fee for this service is $32.00 per hour payable to the City of Reidsville. Contact the Police Administration Department at 347-2305 to line up officers for your events or business. |

Records
At the Records window, located on the first floor of the Police Department, residents can receive a variety of reports and pay parking tickets and animal control fines. Copies of vehicle crash reports are free but limited to one copy. Fines for picked up dogs, etc., are $20 per animal, plus an additional fee is charged by the Reidsville Veterinary Hospital.
Offense reports, including incident reports of B&Es, etc., can be obtained from the Investigative Assistant located in the Detective Division on the first floor of the Police Department.
Parking tickets can be paid by either cash, check or money order at the Records window during normal work hours or can be mailed to the following: Katrina Jones, Records Specialist, 220 W. Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC 27320. |

Residential Keep Check!
If you’re going out of town, stop by the Police Communications Service window and fill out a form asking officers to keep a check on your home. The service is offered for a period of up to 14 days. The form should also list emergency contacts while you’re gone. |

School Resource Officers
The Reidsville Police Department has an agreement with the Rockingham County Schools to provide School Resource Officers (SROs) at the following schools: Reidsville Middle School, Reidsville High School, the SCORE Center and the ALP (Alternative Learning Program) Center. These officers provide a presence in the schools to handle any security concerns and perform other SRO functions. |

Special Attention Program
As part of this program, officers give “special attention” while on patrol to local businesses or residences for up to seven days. These areas receive extra patrols during a span of seven days or more.

Trespassing
The Police Department will provide assistance to citizens with complaints about trespassing at their residences or businesses. By signing the necessary "trespass agreement" form, the property owner empowers the officers to go on private property and cite the offenders. Contact Capt. Workshops
The Police Department offers several workshops on a variety of subjects, including Crime Prevention, Personal Safety, How to Deter Robbery and Shoplifting and Self Defense. These sessions will teach your group simple tips on how to keep your business from being victimized and how to guard your personal safety and help protect against robbery and shoplifting.
