The Department of Economic Development, headed by Director Tammy Spencer, became a reality in 2006. In 2005, the Reidsville City Council pledged monies to fund a new position, which would focus on creating a business-friendly climate that supports and promotes development of new businesses and expansion of existing businesses. The director serves as a liaison, consulting with local business leaders, realtors, lenders, other City staff, local and state regulators, business prospects, members of the media and the generall public, to aid in the establishment and expansion of area businesses and maintaining good relationships with officials countywide.

     While this new department continues to evolve, it will focus on several key areas:

• Advocacy, focusing on Reidsville's special attributes for developing and sustaining business enterprises and publicizing those attributes;
• Marketing, preparing and executing a marketing campaign about the advantages of locating or expanding a business in Reidsville and delivering presentations regarding economic development activities in the City;
• Information, developing and maintaining an inventory of available business sites and preparing brochures and informational materials.

     Tammy Spencer also manages the Reidsville Main Street Downtown Revitalization Program, which is part of the North Carolina Main Street program.
